Mountain Hideaway
You probably don’t know, but jumping from one post to another, you could easily imagine.. I’m not the biggest fan of mountains, it’s an unknown country to me, I did not have holidays at the mountains during my childhood, I don’t ski (never ever tried) and I don’t like snow, it’s something that really do not belong to my family, we’ve grown up by the beach and we would never switch the sea with the snow.
That said, twice a year I really appreciate a relaxing weekend in the mountains, preferably when most of snow is gone and the weather allows to stay outdoor. We’ve recently spent few days at My Daum, a curated Aparthotel in the Dolomites, 30mins drive from Bolzano. The hotel is owned by Kordula and Peter, who have inherited it from their grandmother and brought it into a new life. This traditional farmhouse in the middle of a valley surrounded by pines forests is the perfect place if you need calm and silence.. you won’t book a room, but a little apartment, with a well equipped kitchen and a wide terrace or porch, breakfast is served, while, if you want to stay cozy after a long day outdoor, you can choose a dinner box, cook together and eat in your room, while watching a movie and sipping wine (at the ground floor, there’re any type of bottles, you can prepare a drink or take the whole bottle of wine, just leaving a note about your order). My Daum is dog friendly and they leave the cutest set in your room, if you want to bring your puppy.
Our stay has been very quick unfortunately, but we’ve really enjoyed every moment, taking long baths in the heated pool or clearing our minds sweating in the sauna, we’ve read tons of pages in the relaxation room, sipping hot teas, or in our room’s porch, watching the valley surrounded by the forest. During the day, we had long walks and deeply appreciated silence and fresh pure air (there’re many trekking path around the hotel. so you can literally park the car and take it when it’s time to leave). One night, we’ve driven to Bolzano for a little walk and a traditional dinner, Hopfen & Co. is the place I highly recommend for a local meal, the bill is affordable, food is good and waiters are super nice, on the other night we’ve chosen to stay in, ordering couple of dinner boxes and spending the night in our cute apartment, watching a movie you’ll find on Movie Club.
We came back to Milan recharged and deeply relaxed, My Daum is simple, but each detail counts; the stay would worth any season, if you look for a break from the city and a deep moment of presence and mindfulness.
